Depression

Depression often hangs over us like a heavy shroud. On some days, it may feel like unrelenting sadness or feelings of worthlessness. On others, it may feel like numbness or fatigue. Some days it can even be hard to get out of bed or to find joy in the things that once lit up your life. I know things may be feeling hopeless right now, but the good news is that therapy together can offer relief, both by helping you to develop insight into how you came to feel this way and by developing a plan for beginning to feel better.

Therapy for Anxiety Near Me DC.png

Anxiety & Stress

Anxiety is the most common mental health concern in the United States, and that’s probably of little surprise to those of us familiar with the pace of DC-living. Modern life is full of persistent sources of stress and worry, and finding balance when you may be feeling overwhelmed, on-edge, or excessively worried can feel near impossible. It’s exhausting. Fortunately, anxiety is highly treatable, and therapy together can help you to feel more in control, on balance, and at ease. Cue exhale.

Relationship Therapy in DC.png

Relationships & Communication

Relationships are the bedrock of our lives: The quality of our relationships can literally add or subtract entire years of our lives and predict how we will fare in the years we are allotted. But relationships are excruciatingly complex! So often the rules we’ve learned about how to communicate our wants, needs, and concerns may bog us down in unproductive arguments, disconnect us from those we love, or lead us to sabotage otherwise positive relationships. I help clients improve the quality and quantity of their relationships so they can live life more connected.

LGBTQ+ Identity & Concerns

Navigating work, family, and dating as a queer or trans person can be a powerful challenge, even in a world that is increasingly accepting of LGBTQ+ people. You might find yourself run down by all of the messages about what it means to be who you are and to love who you love, and you may even feel shame or anxiety about living authentically. Whether your concerns are specific to your LGBTQ+ identity or you’re just wanting a therapist who gets it, I am here as a queer therapist myself to help.

Trauma Informed Therapy DC.png

Trauma-Informed Recovery

We all face stress and some amount of hardship in our lives, but events that are particularly distressing, disturbing, prolonged or chronic can be traumatizing. What this means at a neurobiological level is well-documented, with trauma resulting in changes in areas of the brain such as the amygdala (the brain’s fear center), hippocampus (memory and learning), and the prefrontal cortex (higher-order thinking). But just as trauma can change the brain, so too can therapy. I help clients to better understand and recover from trauma by leveraging the neuroplasticity of the brain.
